2020 WAM Song Of The Year Winners

Carla Geneve has won the 2020 WAM Song Of The Year Grand Prize.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

For the second straight year, Albany-born Perth-based musician Carla Geneve has won the WAM Song Of The Year Grand Prize with her song '2001'.

Named after Stanley Kubrick's film '2001: A Space Odyssey', '2001' also scored the gong for best rock song; while Carla walked away with a third award winning best folk song for 'Things Change'.

Young Fremantle musician Jack Davies and The Bush Chooks were awarded Grand Prize Runner-Up with their song 'Half Frozen Beer' that also scored a win in the Country category.

The Second Grand Prize Runner-Up was awarded to Adrian Dzvuke, following his incredible performance of Urban/ Hip Hop category winning song 'Bad Like Ri Ri (feat. POW! Negro)'.

Joining the multi-award winners for 2020 was 14-year-old, singer-songwriter Indigo Ellis, whose song 'Home' received category wins for Schools 14 & Under and the Act-Belong-Commit category.

The full list of winners is a true testament to the rich songwriting talent West Australian music has to offer, with RATSALAD, MissGenius, The Gusset, Karin Page, Grace Barbé, Bolt Gun, Grievous Bodily Calm, The Hunting Birds, Vmarie, Desert Dogs and Harry Mitchell also taking out category wins.

"As ever, Song Of The Year has demonstrated the high quality of songwriting here in WA," WAM CEO, Mike Harris says. "The 2020 competition has had the added layer of going on a journey through the impact of COVID-19 with this year's Awards Party being delivered to your screen via digital means.

"I never envy the judges as this competition goes from strength to strength each year, and the depth of talent is astounding.

"Congratulations to Grand Prize Winner Carla Geneve, who has remarkably won this for the second year running; a unique achievement. Also congratulations to all nominees and category winners and everyone who took time to enter."

The 2020 WAM Song Of The Year Virtual Awards Party can be re-streamed on the WAM Facebook page and YouTube.
