2020 South Australian Music (SAM) Awards Winners

2020 South Australian Music (SAM) Awards were staged at UniBar Adelaide's College Green (3 November).
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

South Australia's music community and industry have celebrated the State's best music creatives of the past 12 months at the 2020 South Australian Music (SAM) Awards.

Staged on the grounds of UniBar Adelaide's College Green (3 November), the 2020 SAM Awards are one of the first awards ceremonies to be rolled out at its full capacity, in its full format, anywhere around the country this year.

The two major winners of the night were electronic artist Motez and indie pop, punk duo Wing Defence, who each scored three Awards (including tying for Best Release – the first time that has happened in the SAM Awards history).

Motez also collected Best Video and People's Choice Electronic Artist awards; while Wing Defence managed to also score Best Group and People's Choice Punk Artist gongs.

In total, 29 industry voted and People's Choice awards were given out with local legends Ollie English, Naomi Keyte, Jessica Wishart (twice), Wanderers, Jess Day (twice), Towns and Siberian Tiger all winning on the night.

"It was so wonderful to be able to gather for the SAM Awards," Music SA General Manager, Kim Roberts says.

"It was a beautiful night and the perfect way to celebrate the depth and breadth of talent here in SA, especially after such a tough time for the industry.

"Congratulations to all of the winners and nominees, and to the team of great people that worked hard to make this event possible."

The outdoor ceremony was hosted by Three D Radio's Isaac Selby and witnessed live performances from SAM Award 2020 nominees J-MILLA, Lonelyspeck, Chelsea Manor and SEABASS.
