The 2018 edition of the Music Victoria Awards has recognised the upstanding achievements of the state's diverse music community, celebrating the best releases, performers, venues and festivals of the past 12 months.
The Publicly Voted awards were dominated by recurring favourite Courtney Barnett and rising star Baker Boy aka Danzal Baker. Courtney picked up Best Solo Artist, Best Female Musician and The Premier's Prize For The Best Victorian Album Of 2018, which was accompanied by a $10, 000 cash prize.
Baker Boy, in his first time at the awards, was the recipient of foir awards for Best Song, Best Male Musician, Best Live Act and The Premier's Prize For The Best Victorian Breakthrough Act Of 2018, including a $5, 000 cash prize.
Other winners of the Publicly Voted awards were Camp Cope for Best band, The Northcote Social Club for Best Small Venue and The Corner Hotel for Best Large Venue.
Performances on the evening included Angie McMahon with a stunning rendition of her single 'Slow Mover' as well as Evelyn Ida Morris, Baker Boy and Sampa The Great plus a tribute to 2018 Music Victoria Hall Of Fame inductee Chrissy Amphlett by Ella Hooper and Dallas Frasca delivering a cover of Divinyls' 'Boys In Town'.
