2018 Gold Coast Music Awards Finalists Revealed

The 2018 Gold Coast Music Awards will be staged on the Surfers Paradise beachfront 3 May.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

The 2018 finalists have been revealed by the Gold Coast Music Awards and indie-pop sensation Amy Shark leads the charge with four nominations alongside indie-folk duo Hollow Coves (who are currently on tour in North America).

Hussy Hicks and Black Rabbit George have both been nominated three times. Casey Barnes, Ella Fence and Mitch King join Amy Shark and Hussy Hicks nominated for Artist of the Year.

The 2018 Awards, which will be hosted by Australian radio favourite and former Triple J 'Home & Hosed' host Dom Alessio, will take place on the Surfers Paradise beachfront with a massive, free concert to kick off Surfers Paradise LIVE festival on Thursday 3 May.

"It's been a massive year for Gold Coast music and the fact that one third of this year's finalists will be showcased to the world while the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games is in town is testament to the calibre of talent being recognised," Awards director Samantha Morris says.

Large crowds are expected to attend the free, live outdoor concert, which this year features multi award-winning roots musician Bobby Alu (click here to read our February 2018 interview with Bobby) and 2018 finalists Hussy Hicks, Electrik Lemonade and Eliza and the Delusionals.

Organisers have also announced the after-party line-up at Surfers Paradise Beergarden with live entertainment from Mason Rack Band, Being Jane Lane, Peach Fur and Lens.

“As a born and bred GC local, I feel proud to have been part of the growth of our vibrant music scene as an independent artist since 2005. I hope to encourage other young female artists to get out there and shine!” Rhea Robertson, Song and Video Of The Year Finalist, says.

"It's always great to have people appreciate what we do, but when it's home-town love nothing really beats that. It's gonna be a great night!" Lane-Harry x Ike Campbell, Video Of The Year Finalist, says.

"We are completely stoked to hear we are finalists in Live Act of the Year for the GCMA. We had a long-time rule of not entering in competitions, but we thought because it was such a good thing for the local music scene we wanted to be a part of it.

"To hear we are finalists in the category was a very pleasant surprise indeed." Tijuana Cartel, Live Act and Video Of The Year Finalist, says.
