Festival Of Small Halls summer tour will weave its way through regional and remote Queensland and northern New South Wales later this month featuring headliners Canada's Old Man Luedecke and home-grown talent Lucy Wise.
The tour, produced by Woodfordia Inc in partnership with Mullum Music Festival and Woodford Folk Festival, aims to bring folk and acoustic music to regional, rural, and remote areas often neglected.
Old Man Luedecke is a two-time JUNO Award winner (Canada’s acoustic music awards) whose most recent recording, 'Domestic Eccentric' was recorded with and produced by legendary old-time and bluegrass musician Tim O’Brien.
Lucy’s third album, 'Winter Sun' released earlier this year, draws upon her experiences touring and meeting people as well as times spent at home, walking the streets and creek paths of Melbourne.
“We both can't wait to play in so many special places,” Lucy says.
Both acts focus their music on storytelling and “matters of the heart”. Old Man Luedecke favours a banjo, while Lucy jumps between ukulele, guitar and the Appalachian dulcimer.
“Old Man Luedecke and Lucy Wise have been chosen not only because of their beautiful musicianship, but because they have the ability to really connect with people through storytelling, the ability to tell a joke, as well as a wonderful warmth and real interest in visiting places a little off the beaten track,” Executive Producer Eleanor Rigden says.
“Having toured in tough times of bushfires and droughts before, Festival Of Small Halls has proven many times to be the perfect reprieve the community needs.”
And it is especially needed now. “From our farmlands to the flood lands, the rainforests to the outback, the towns that are a bit off the beaten track tend to be left off big tours, which means regional folk are missing out.”
This partnership allows them to “bring in the best contemporary folk artists... without the cost, challenges and inconveniences of packing up the family to get to a show in the city".
