2018 Australian Music Week Reveal Additional 40 Showcase Acts

Lucy Neville is one of the forty new showcase acts announced by 2018 Australian Music Week.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Australian Music Week continues to deliver the musical goodness with another 40 acts announced to showcase as well as a massive conference agenda covering everything from diversity, mental health and management to dedicated sessions on heavy, folk and Americana music.

The new music additions include a number of international guests: UK rock/ electronica act The Ramona Flowers as well as Canadians Adyn Townes, Amy Nelson, Declan O'Donovan, Luca Fogale, Mo Kenney and Random Recipe.

On the local front, ARIA-nominated singer-songwriter Danny Widdicombe & Trichotomy, Sydney indie-pop artist Oly Sherman and punk-rockers SCABZ will be joined by Australian electro-pop streaming sensation Lucy Neville, Rolling Stone certified singer-songwriter Mark Lang (Skipping Girl Vinegar) and Australia Council's Dreaming Award-winner Nooky.

Other highlights include Hobo Magic, Mike Elrington, Nathan Cavaleri, Pirra, Tom West, ELSKA, Soliloquy, David Spry and Tasman Keith.

Jessica Irwin, an emerging Australian musician, will perform live with her idol, multi-platinum, award-winning musician Steve Balbi (Mi-Sex, Noiseworks) thanks to the world's first eye-controlled music software, Atmosphere from Pyskinetic.

Jessica and Steve will also join Pyskinetic's technology team, who they helped to develop this game-changing software, to discuss the future applications of eye-controlled tech in music, which enables pre-recorded and programmed notes, chords and sound sequences to be triggered and controlled by eye-movement and blinks.

Plus there'll be a 'Live Sessions' show with multi-platinum, ARIA-winner Diesel (10 November) with support act Hawksley Workman. Winning days indeed.

Away from the stage will be a plethora of discussion topics industry members will be able to immerse themselves in.

Just a selection of the topics announced today include:

• On Tour: The Musician's Guide To Surviving The Rock Star Lifestyle
• Association of Artist Managers Presents: A Deep Dive into the Artist/Manager Relationship
• Oztix Presents: Dominate Your Digital Space
• Plus Supports: How to Nail It As The Opening Act

"Australian Music Week is all about arming artists and industry professionals with relevant, relatable information they can take away use to make a difference in their career and the industry, today," conference director, Jonathan Howell says.

"We have more gold to reveal soon, but these panels and masterclasses give great insight into the breadth and depth of conference topics.

"We are really excited to be working with leading Australian musicians and industry professionals to deliver meaty, must-know material at this year's conference."

An inclusive event that opens its arms to all genres and celebrates artists doing things differently, today's announcement testifies to the diversity and abundance of talent on show at Australian Music Week this year.

"I can't tell you how excited we are for this year's showcases, so much new talent, a lot of artists that will turn heads. The Australian music future shines very bright," Australian Music Week program director, Geoff Trio says.

Taking over Sydney's Cronulla Beach 7-9 November, Australian Music Week brings together artists and industry professionals at the forefront of the grassroots music scene for more than 150 live performances, 20+ industry panels and masterclass workshops, as well as a dedicated Music Film Festival (10-11 Nov).
