Everyone's favourite Breaking Bad supporting character, Saul Goodman, will live on after the show concludes.
After lengthy negotiations between cable network AMC and Breaking Bad producer Sony Pictures TV, the spinoff series — called Better Call Saul, obviously — has now been confirmed.
Conceived by Breaking Bad mastermind Vince Gilligan and writer-producer Peter Gould (who created Saul together when he first appeared in Season 2), and starring Bob Odenkirk, the series will focus on the evolution of the sleazy (but effective) lawyer before he was hired by Walt and Jesse.
Just in case you think this is a last minute cash grab, Vince Gilligan has been talking up the show for over a year. "I would love to see a Saul Goodman spinoff," he said in July 2012. "I like the idea of a lawyer show in which the main lawyer wil do anything it takes to stay out of a court of law. He'll settle on the courthouse steps, whatever it takes to stay out of the courtroom. That would be fun — I would like that."
