Yep, we're going down this road again.
It seems like just yesterday that The Simpsons courted controversy by killing off Maude Flanders, but — surprise! — it was actually 13 years ago. Yeah. Think about that for a second, and consider the various ways in which you've wasted your life since then.
Anyway, the show that seemed to be on its last legs when it last killed off a supporting character 13 years ago is plotting the death of another regular. Though executive producer Al Jean isn't giving much away.
"I'll give you a clue," he told The Sun News, "that the actor playing the character won an Emmy for playing that character, but I won't say who it is."
That might seem like a decent clue, but here's the thing — Dan Castellaneta, Hank Azaria, Nancy Cartwright and Yeardley Smith have all won Emmy Awards for their work on The Simpsons, and between the four of them, they voice nearly all of the show's regular characters. And that's just the main cast — Anne Hathaway (Princess Penelope), Kelsey Grammer (Sideshow Bob), Jackie Mason (Rabbi Krustofsky), Julie Kavner (Jacqueline Bouvier) and Marcia Wallace (Mrs Krabappel) have all won Emmys for their work on the show.
The 25th season of The Simpsons premiered on the weekend; it will outlive us all.
