Entries are open for Australia's most prestigious short film festival, Tropfest, and its junior counterpart, Tropfest Jr.
Originating in Sydney over 21 years ago, Tropfest has become the world’s largest short film festival. This year, Tropfest is asking candidates from the young age of 16 to create films around the Tropfest Signiture Item (TSI), 'Change'. With such a broad theme and room to creatively manoeuvre the theme into the work, great works are anticipated.
With Tropfest's move to Centennial Park, there is room for a larger crowd. All finalists will have their films screened live around the country on SBS 2 as well as go in the running in to win some incredible prizes including a brand new Toyota, a Nikon D800 DSLR plus $2,000 RRP worth of Nikkor lenses, $10,000 thanks to Kennedy Miller Mitchell and a 'film immersion' trip to Los Angeles, where the winner will meet with industry executives.
The young and aspiring filmmakers of Tropfest Jr have been given an equally interesting theme to look at in the TSI of 'Monster'; and the winner is looking at $5000 in cash.
For the more musically inclined, songwriters, producers, DJs, composers and musicians can get involved in Tropfest by entering Tropscore for the opportunity to write music to accompany a short film provided by Tropfest. There’s $5000 up for grabs for the winning composer.
Tropscore Jr is also now open for entries. This competition gives budding film composers aged 15 and under the chance to write a musical score to accompany Harri Gilbert’s fantastic short film Where’s My Sandwich? from the last Trop Jr competition.
The deadline is October 10, so get your creative energies flowing and start filming.
