The trailer for the upcoming film adaption of the musical ‘Mean Girls’ is here. The musical, written by Tina Fey with music and lyrics by Jeff Richmond and Nell Benjamin respectively, premiered in 2017 before opening on Broadway in 2018.

In January of 2020, Tina Fey announced that a film adaptation of the musical was in production – and it’s now set for release early next year.

The film sees Tiny Fey reprising her role as Ms. Norbury, as well as Australia’s own Angourie Rice as Cady Heron, Renee Rapp as Regina George, Auli’i Cravalho as Janis, Jaquel Spivey as Damian, Bebe Wood as Gretchen, Avantika Vandanapu as Karen, and Christopher Briney as Aaron Samuels.

There’s even a return for Tim Meadows, who reprises his role as Principal Duvall.

‘Mean Girls’ is a modern twist on a modern classic, as Cady is welcoming to the top of the social food chain by the elite popular girls The Plastics, ruled by Queen Bee Regina George. When Cady finds herself falling for Regina’s ex Aaron, she finds herself prey in Regina’s crosshairs.

Cady plots to take down the apex predator with help from her friends Janis and Damian, and along the way she must learn to stay true to herself while navigating the jungle that is high school.

‘Mean Girls’ is in cinemas 11 January.
