The internet really does want Leonardo DiCaprio to win an Oscar.
As if the slew of memes dedicated to Leo's tragically empty Oscars shelf hadn't made that clear enough, the folks over at The Meltwater Group have analysed billions of news and social media sources to determine who the internet thinks will win at today's ceremony — and it predicts 'The Wolf Of Wall Street' will run the table.
They've been monitoring social media buzz about the Oscars for three years now, and their findings correspond almost exactly with the Academy's decisions. Last year, they predicted five out of six major categories correctly. The year before, they looked at just three categories, and accurately predicted two of them.
This year, they're predicting a Best Picture nod for 'The Wolf Of Wall Street' (edging out 'American Hustle') and a resounding win for Leo DiCaprio as Best Actor (though all those Leo memes are probably skewing those numbers).
The internet has Martin Scorsese winning Best Director by a comfortable margin (though conventional wisdom would point towards Alfonso Cuaron), though Leo's co-star Jonah Hill is predicted to lose out to Jared Leto for his performance in 'Dallas Buyer's Club'.
The tightest race is for Best Actress, with Meryl Streep predicted to beat out unbackable favourite Cate Blanchett by the narrowest of margins. If at least a couple of these predictions turn out to be wrong, we're pretty sure this will be one of them.
Finally, Jennifer Lawrence — The Internet's Favourite Person — is expected to win Best Supporting Actress in a walk. We reckon they might be right about that one.
