The Gold Coast Film Festival Will Open With Wes Anderson

Wes Anderson

Dig up your Team Zissou beanie — the Gold Film Festival will open with a special preview screening of Wes Anderson's 'The Grand Budapest Hotel'.

Straight from its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival, 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' will open the GCFF on Thursday April 3 at Birch, Carroll and Coyle Cinemas at Pacific Fair.

Written and directed by Anderson ('Moonrise Kingdom', 'The Royal Tenenbaums', 'The Life Aquatic', 'Rushmore', 'Bottle Rocket', 'Fantastic Mr Fox', 'The Darjeeling Limited' — all certified bangers), 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' tells the story of Gustave H, a legendary concierge at a famous European hotel, and Zero Moustafa, the lobby boy who becomes his most trusted ally.

Great actors tend to come running when Anderson beckons, and 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' might feature his strongest cast yet — Ralph Fiennes, Bill Murray, Edward Norton, Jason Schwartzman, Tilda Swinton, Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody, F Murray Abraham, Jude Law, Saoirse Ronan, Tom Wilkinson, Willem Dafoe and even Jeff Goldblum (!) are all on deck.

"Securing 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' for opening night was an exciting moment for us," says GCFF festival director Kylie Pascoe, "and is proof that we are committed to delivering our audiences some of the finest films from here and abroad.

"From internationally acclaimed features, incredible Japanese anime, locally made indie gems and quirky genre films, our vision is to deliver a program of culturally diverse and engaging films and events, and 'The Grand Budapest' sets a very high standard."

The full GCFF program and guest line-up will be announced on March 3.
