Sydney Film Festival (SFF) have announced 27 new films to be featured in their 62nd festival event 3 – 14 June. SFF have also announced a new screening venue in Sydney's Inner West.


The 12-day festival screens feature films, documentaries, short films and animation from around the world in venues across Sydney.

The 2015 SFF will not only be previewing 200+ films, but also an Ingmar Bergman retrospective curated by David Stratton. The renowned critic, Stratton, who was SFF's Festival Director from 1966 to 1983, will present a program of ten essential classics directed by Bergman, which will include 'The Seventh Seal', 'Wild Strawberries', 'Persona', 'Cries and Whispers' and 'Fanny and Alexander'.

Of the films announced, 17 are new features and 10 are new documentaries including 24 Australian premieres. Leading the titles announced in the Festival’s sneak peek are: 'Strangerland' starring Nicole Kidman, Joseph Fiennes and Hugo Weaving; 'Slow West' winner of the World Cinema Grand Jury Prize at Sundance; 'Mr Holmes' starring Sir Ian McKellen as a 93-year-old Sherlock Holmes obsessing over his last unsolved case; and the surreal pitch-black comedy, 'A Pigeon Sat On A Branch Reflecting On Existence'.

“This preview gives you a picture of the depth and breadth of the range of features and documentaries you will discover in our full program. Think of it as a comprehensive survey of the state of our world, showcasing the larger and smaller stories, trends, issues and concerns that make us who we are today,” says Festival Director Nashen Moodley.

In 2015 the Festival extends its reach to include Sydney’s Inner West, bringing around 20 screenings to its new screening venue, Dendy Newtown. The Festival also takes place across greater Sydney: at the State Theatre, Event Cinemas George Street, Art Gallery of NSW, Hayden Orpheum Picture Palace Cremorne, the Festival Hub at Sydney Town Hall and SFF Outdoor Screen.

The full SFF programme will be announced 6 May.
