The Revelation Perth International Film Festival returns for its 23rd event in December, showcasing international and local content.
Revelation opens with 'Firestarter; The Story Of Bangarra', a documentary marking Bangarra Dance Theatre's 30th anniversary co-directed by Perth's Nel Minchin.
Locally-produced highlights include murder mystery 'The Xrossing', complex family dynamic film 'Laura's Choice', comedy/horror/sci-fi mash-up 'An Ideal Host' and documentary 'The Beloved'.
Other local offerings come in smaller/shorter packages, with the annual Get Your Shorts On! and City Of Vincent Film Project films showcased on the big screen at Luna Cinemas Leederville. Family-friendly films will screen free of charge, daily at Luna Cinemas. Additionally, Revelation will present a Westralia showcase of WA content at The Backlot.
'Dinner In America'
Those keen on indie darlings can look forward to fun, low budget film 'Save Yourselves', and coming-of-age comedy 'Dinner In America'.
The '90s flop 'Showgirls' features in a double-bill with 2020's 'You Don't Nomi', which is a masterful documentary about the aforementioned box office disaster.
Music-lovers will revel in documentaries such as 'Crock Of Gold' directed by Julien Temple, 'My Darling Vivian' directed by Matt Riddlehoover and 'Lydia Lunch – The War Is Never Over', a career-spanning documentary retrospective of the American singer, poet, writer, actress and speaker, directed by Beth B.
'The New Corporation' is the sequel to the 2003 film 'The Corporation', profiling new developments in the political and social power of global corporations and brands.
'The Trouble With Being Born'
Those into a little bit of controversy will be into 'The Trouble With Being Born', which was banned from MIFF and won a special jury prize at the Berlin Film Festival while also prompting audience walkouts.
Virtual reality experience XR:WA returns for its second year running, showcasing ideas, works, technology and the constantly evolving environment of the VR and digital screen industry.
Four four-minute shorts will premiere as part of the FourByFour element of the festival, in a collaboration with Co3 Dance Australia, Tura New Music and some of WA's best VR film practitioners.
"COVID-19 has devastated the film fest scene globally, but a microbe isn’t going to stop us presenting some of the most exciting, vital, vibrant and acclaimed new and international short, feature and documentary films to WA audiences," Festival Director, Richard Sowada says.
"It’s a programme packed with special events, industry networking opportunities, a sister online component of around 15 additional titles and some of the most acclaimed festival titles you’ll find anywhere. In the most challenging of cultural times, we’re continuing to redefine what a film festival can be – and we can’t wait to see how audiences respond."
The full programme for the Revelation Perth International Film Festival will be revealed in November.
