International call for entries
There’s still a couple of months before you’ve got to start thinking about what you’re going to buy your mum, dad, siblings or best buddy for Christmas, so don’t worry about them just yet, enter your film into the film festival instead! We’re getting entries from all around the world as we speak and we’d love to take a look at yours. We’re interested in any and all forms and durations and we love local works. WA Screen Culture Awards
. . .And if you’re a WA filmmaker, you really should send us your film for the forthcoming WA Screen Culture Awards. This annual celebration acknowledges and rewards innovation and achievement across the WA screen sector including feature films, documentaries, shorts and student work, commercial, games, VR, moving image art and everything in between. Taking place on 5 December, you just have to be part of it! We're thrilled to announce our first list of judges – an esteemed bunch of filmmakers, curators and craftspeople from all around the globe including Isabel Peppard, Simon Foster, Greg Ferris, Melinda Martin, Tom Putnam, Kate Fitzpatrick, Julia Overton, Chris Haywood, Daina Reid, Roz Hammond, Peter Moyes, Sherree Phillips, Mark Spratt, Ruby Arrowsmith-Todd, Cat Hope, Kath Berger, Simon Reeve, John Buck, Chad Toprak, Zac Hepburn, Alexander Swords, Clare Moore, Lo Carmen and Amiel Courtin-Wilson.
City of Vincent Film Project
Over the last four years in collaboration with the City of Vincent, Rev has commissioned a dozen non-fiction short films – and they’re continuing to experience an enormous amount of success worldwide. Submissions for the 2022 films are now open. Projects must be in the documentary genre (but can be comedic, dramatic or animated), between 5-10 minutes in length (including credits) and suitable for screening at all age events. Three projects will be selected for funding and support consisting of a cash component of $7,000 plus mentoring during the development, production and post-production phases.

If you haven’t explored our very own streaming service, RevStream, you’re in for a unique treat. Born and bred in WA, this unique service includes more than 300 local and international films, most of which we’ve screened since we started in 1997. They’re available for hire or rent and include some of the most acclaimed films drawn from the international film fest scene. There's something for all tastes and once you’re in, it’s a rabbit hole that’s mighty hard to get out of. We’re also looking for WA-produced works to include in the catalogue. We’ve got more than 100 local titles on show. If you’re a local filmmaker and keen to get eyes on your film, all we need is a file (or access to one), a poster and a synopsis and we’re off!
Cinema happenings in Perth
‘Some Happy Day' – an independent feature film, will have its Australian Premiere at The Backlot Perth from 18-21 November. Screenings will be followed by a Q&A with cast and crew. Profoundly moving, 'Some Happy Day' lays bare the underbelly of Australian lives rarely seen and was made with – and in – the community in which the story is set, with many of the background actors having lived experience of surviving without a home. The film was inspired by the director/writer Catherine Hill’s 20 years of working as a social worker with rough sleepers. Tickets available from Eventbrite.
'Lion Spy: The Hunt For Justice' – Australian filmmaker, Rogue Rubin, goes undercover to reveal what really goes on at African animal hunting safaris, which are leading to the extinction of the majestic wild lion. The Women & Infants Research Foundation has partnered with Rogue Rubin, Pivot Pictures and Event Cinemas for an exclusive screening on Wednesday 27 October at Event Cinemas Innaloo.
