Book to Film at the Backlot – Mommie Dearest
Christina Crawford's notorious 1978 memoir and exposė of her superstar mother, actress Joan Crawford, is the oh-so-juicy source for this eye-popping psychodrama. The Variety reviewer wrote in 1981, "[Faye] Dunaway does not chew scenery. Dunaway starts neatly at each corner of the set in every scene and swallows it whole, co-stars and all." The plot concerns actress Joan, who is driven, compulsive and controlling of everything from her coat hangers to her children's lives. The Backlot Perth – 2pm Sunday 8 October – tickets from Eventbrite.
Transition Town Vincent – Anote’s Ark
A compelling documentary that sheds light on the pressing issue of climate change in Kiribati, a remote Pacific Island nation facing imminent annihilation due to rising sea levels. Through sweeping cinematography, the documentary paints a vivid picture of the devastating impacts of climate change on this low-lying atoll and the human stories at its heart. There will be free popcorn courtesy of The Source at The Mezz and free bakery items from Dejaxo Bakery. Floreat Athena Football Club – 6.15pm Monday 9 October – tickets from Humanitix.
