Cinema happenings in Perth

- Book to Film – 'The Manchurian Candidate'
This fascinating paranoid thriller from the high Cold War divided audiences who saw it in its original outing, and has divided them ever since. Did it lean right, or did it lean left? Was it funny, or horrible, or camp? What did it mean in 1962? In 1988, when it was re-released? In 2004, when it was remade? What does it mean now? 2pm Sunday 9 July at The Backlot Perth, tickets from Eventbrite.

- Black Cockatoo Crisis
Western Australia's iconic black cockatoos are in crisis. The extinction clock is ticking. Will we save them in time? This is a special screening assistance for those with hearing impairments. 2pm Sunday 16 July at The Backlot Perth, tickets from Eventbrite.

- SAXO Scandinavian Film Festival
A specially curated programme of the best new cinema from the Nordic region featuring films from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden will be screening at Palace Cinemas Raine Square, Luna Leederville and Luna on SX from 20 July-9 August. Tickets from the Scandinavian Film Fest website.
