Peter Capaldi is a Rebel Time Lord with a cause.
Though he's already made two cameo appearances on the show since being announced as the 12th Doctor, 'Doctor Who' fans had yet to see the costume Peter Capaldi plans to wear on the show. After today, they can check that box off.
No improbably long scarf or decorative celery stick here — Capaldi's outfit, which he chose for himself, is "simple, stark, and back to basics"; just a navy Crombie coat (with striking red lining), a cardigan, somewhat ill-fitting pants, Doc Martens boots, and a little rock star swagger.
"He's woven the future from the cloth of the past," Capaldi said in a statement, giving mad props to his own tailoring skills. "No frills, no scarf, no messing, just 100 percent Rebel Time Lord." (If ever there was a descriptor that seemed designed to send Tumblr fangirls into a frenzy, it's 'Rebel Time Lord'.)
Adding fuel to expectations that Capaldi will play a slightly scarier Doctor, showrunner Steven Moffat added: "Capaldi is suited and booted and coming to get you!"
A date has yet to be announced for the debut of the show's eighth season. In the meantime, the Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular will hit Brisbane Entertainment Centre on Saturday February 8.
