Here is a taste of what's to come at the festival this week:

Early Checkout – Byron Premiere

One drongo tries to help another, who thinks he’s accidentally killed a young woman during rough sex. The comedy just gets blacker, the further they dig themselves into a hole. Starring Jacki Weaver in a superb cameo, 'Early Checkout' premieres on 15 March.

Early Check Out

Melt – World Premiere

'Melt’ follows the story of Lena, a disillusioned teenager struggling to find balance in her life and growing weary of her unconventional upbringing. It is a meditation on the relationships we build and destroy. The Byron Community Centre, 15 March.

Thunderlust (And The Middle Beast)

Cock-rock never died, it was just sleeping until hip-thrusting glam metal band Thunderlust apply the kiss of life – or try to, with hilarious results. These long-haired, strutting egomaniacs with an image problem come to a part of the world that suffers the same, the Middle East, a region whose customs they are absurdly ill-equipped to negotiate. One outlandish affront follows another as they reluctantly take on an inexperienced Jordanian filmmaker to shoot their vulgar videos. His name, Anas, makes the frontman squeal with outrage. Director Steve Pratt will be in attendance on 15 March.

Brodie Stanton: A Film Portrait

A finely judged little gem by high school student Jayden Morrison about his mate, Australian Muay Thai Champion Brodie Stanton, and his passion for the ring, and determination and fight his way to the top. Director Jayden Morrison will be in attendance, 13, 14 & 15 March.

I Remember The Future – Australian Premiere

Is it the final days of his reality or the start to his dreams? When Abe discovers that he will fall victim to an irreversible illness, he’s forced to make some difficult decisions. The Australian premiere will take place at the Byron Community Centre, 14 March.

The Flight Of The Buffalo – NSW Premiere

A filmmaker confronts unspoken family struggles in light of his father’s departure for a tour of duty with the Australian Chinook Squadron. A short documentary, 'The Flight Of The Buffalo' will premiere in New South Wales on 14 March.

The ninth annual Byron Bay International Film Festival is in until 15 March.
