More than a decade since her death, a new HBO Max two-part documentary will examine the circumstances leading up to the sudden passing of Brittany Murphy.
Titled 'What Happened, Brittany Murphy?', the film is directed by Emmy-nominated Cynthia Hill ('Private Violence') and features new archival footage and interviews with those closest to Murphy.
The secretive nature of Brittany's final years and her marriage to Simon Monjack (who died months after Brittany's death in similar circumstances) that had friends and colleagues concerned made the passing of the 'Eight Mile' and 'Spun' actress an easy target of sordid speculation and conspiracy theories.
But 'What Happened, Brittany Murphy?' is more than a rehash of the tabloid rumours; rather it's a deep dive into the impact of Hollywood's sexism on Brittany's own struggles to maintain her status as a 'leading lady' driven by society's unhealthy obsession with stardom and beauty.
'What Happened, Brittany Murphy?' premieres on Binge from 7 November.
