SBS's new, short-form drama series 'The Tailings' has begun on-location production in Tasmania.
A mystery-drama (6 x 10-minute episodes) set in Tasmania's West Coast, the cast for 'The Tailings' features Mabel Li and Tegan Stimson.Set in a remote community, with an eerie and rugged landscape as a backdrop, 'The Tailings' focuses on Jas (portrayed by Tegan) and her investigation into her father's death.
Ruby (Mabel) is a freshly graduated schoolteacher with her own unresolved issues whose arrival coincides with Jas's father's funeral.
As the mystery unfolds, secrets are exposed and the two are challenged to confront the strange and paradoxical layers of grief.
"The series tells such a powerful and relevant story, entailing many strong female roles, who have such depth and complexity," Tegan says.
"Growing up in Tasmania, there is always a sense of strong community and you are never far from nature.
"As a young Tasmanian, I identify with this story and wish to help portray an entertaining show that can resonate with audiences.”
'The Tailings' ensemble cast includes Tasmanian actress Kris McQuade ('Rosehaven', 'Wentworth'), joined by Victoria Haralabidou ('Deep Water'), and Nic English ('Reckoning').
