Drawing from the cosy traditions of drive-in cinemas, Ben & Jerry’s Openair Cinema is an outdoor event showcasing quality feature films on an enormous screen from dusk.
Attendees are even encouraged to get comfortable before the movie, by relaxing to the sounds of emerging and established Australian musicians.
Massive acts have featured on the B&J stage in the past, including the Cat Empire, Kate Miller-Heidke, Kisschasy, Hungry Kids of Hungary, Winter People, Jack Carty, Dan Parsons, Tara Simmons, Ashleigh Mannix, and many more.
The eclectic film program is as equally impressive, lining up quirky comedies, retro classics, great Australian fare, award-winning features, new releases, premieres, and sneak previews.
The Brisbane event runs every night from 29 September-13 October, located at the Rainforest Green in South Bank, opposite the city and near the Wheel of Brisbane.
'David Brent – Life on the Road' is sure to amuse the audience on opening night, with 'Bad Mums' selling fast the on the following night, and 'War Dogs' expected to draw massive crowd numbers that same weekend.
'The Secret Life of Pets' playing on Friday, 14 October will provide an opportunity for the kids to come along and enjoy the fun, and the double feature of 'Bridget Jones’ Diary' and 'Bridget Jones’ Baby' is already looking like a sell-out on Saturday, 22 October.
For those who decide to spend Sunday at the Openair Cinema, free Ben & Jerry’s ice-cream will be provided as part of the ‘Sundae Session’ promotion. A wide range of snacks will be available to purchase at every screening, plus more filling foods to keep cinemagoers’ tanks running.
A fully-licensed bar is going to be on site, stocked with frosty beers, sparkling wines, and non-alcoholic offerings. Attendees can bring along a picnic blanket, or are otherwise welcome to hire a bean lounger upon arrival. Organisers urge guests to arrive early to secure the best possible spot on the grass.
