"Something has to change and I'm trying."

'Girls' creator and star Lena Dunham has taken a shot at the gender imbalance in Hollywood during her keynote at SXSW.

At this point, the most well-known member of the 'Girls' cast (aside from Dunham herself) isn't a girl at all. It's Adam Driver, who plays Dunham's love interest on the show (and will reportedly play a villain in 'Star Wars Episode VII'.)

Dunham doesn't think that's an anomaly, telling the SXSW audience that Driver has been offered parts playing "villains, Lotharios and nerds all in one year" while co-stars Zosia Mamet and Allison Williams have yet to be offered parts that would give them a chance "to stretch their legs".

Dunham added that she knows "there isn't a place right now for me in studio-funded movies". She said she's trying to change the role of women in Hollywood by holding down four jobs in Hollywood.

Dunham also used her 45-minute keynote to address ratings (she doesn't care for them), budgets ("Lack of budget is no longer an excuse... holding up a camera and letting people wander around documentary style is no longer acceptable") and Republicans ("I'm sure there are some good ones. I just haven't met them yet").
