Keira Knightley Stars In 'Misbehaviour': A Film About The 1970 Miss World Competition

'Misbehaviour' releases in Australian cinemas 26 November, 2020.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

By 2020 standards, it seems farcical that in 1970 the most-watched TV show on the planet was the Miss World competition with over 100 million viewers.

It's also quite vulgar that while it's been 50 years since the events depicted in 'Misbehaviour' took place, sexism remains a part of every-day life.

That's why a movie like 'Misbehaviour' is such an important release, to give historical context to a new generation.

Keira Knightley ('Pride & Prejudice', 'The Imitation Game') portrays real-life English historian and feminist activist Sally Alexander, who was involved with the UK branch of the Women's Liberation Movement (WLM).

In 1970, the WLM organised a group to disrupt the live broadcast of the Miss World competition which was hosted by Bob Hope (Greg Kinnear).

The group achieved over-night fame, particularly when the show resumed the result caused uproar. The winner was not the Swedish favourite but Miss Grenada, the first black woman to be crowned Miss World.

Directed by Philippa Lowthorpe and starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw ('The Morning Show', 'Belle') as Jennifer Hosten (Miss Grenada), 'Misbehaviour' also features Jessie Buckley, Keely Hawes and Rhys Ifans.

'Misbehaviour' releases in Australian cinemas 26 November, 2020.
