JMC Academy recently held its Martini Film Awards night, an evening of glamour, ball gowns, red carpet and applause.

Held annually at the Judith Wright Centre in Brisbane and the Coopers Malthouse Theatre in Melbourne, the event celebrates the work of the next generation of filmmakers emerging into the industry.

Jennifer Ussi, Head of Film and Television Brisbane, said the awards were a highlight of film and animation students’ two-year bachelor’s degree. “Although the focus is on the graduating projects of the final year students, the best of the best from the rest of the year’s work is celebrated in equal fashion,” Ms Ussi said.

During the award’s night, graduating films were judged by local industry professionals. Ms Ussi said this ensured unbiased results as well as students’ work getting seen by top professionals in Australia, something that was essential in the future of emerging filmmakers.

“We’re also fortunate enough to have the support of all the various guilds and associations in Australia who generously offer winning craft categories, including best director and best sound design, free membership to their guilds,” she said.
