The live-action film adaption of the classic video game, 'Sonic The Hedgehog' has just dropped its first official trailer.
From the same team that brought us the 'Fast And The Furious' and 'Deadpool' franchises, 'Sonic' is set for national release January 2020.
The comedy adventure is based on Sega's blue hedgehog with super-sonic speed and follows Tom ('Westworld's James Marsden) – a rural town cop who befriends a juvenile delinquent Sonic – who strives to stop the devious Dr. 'Eggman' Robotnik (Jim Carrey, who's in classic 'Pet Detective' form) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination.
Ben Schwartz ('Parks and Recreation' and 'House Of Lies') voices Sonic.
The trailer focuses mainly on 'Eggman' and his comical tirades; Carrey has put a humorous spin on the game's inaugural villain. “He's pure, unbridled evil,” Carrey recently told IMDb. “300 IQ. One of the smartest men that walked the earth. So I had to take a couple of weeks to prepare.”
Soundtracked by Coolio's 'Gangsta's Paradise' and featuring Sonic saying “meow” at one point while also rocking a pair of fresh, bright-red Pumas, the trailer does at first watch appear as a uniquely experimental mock-tail. But you'll have to see it to believe it.
