Isaac Lahey aka Daniel Sharman Headed To Supanova

Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Daniel Sharman is best known for starring in two popular supernatural teen shows – 'Teen Wolf' and 'The Originals' – but he has a history of impressive stage work, as well as movies like 'The Immortals' with Henry Cavill.

Next month he'll be appearing at Supanova Pop Culture Expo. For the majority of fans flocking to catch a glimpse of him though, Daniel will always be their beloved Isaac Lahey, the curly-haired teen werewolf who 'came here to win'.

Throwing new characters in the mix is risky, but when Daniel joined 'Teen Wolf' in its second season, his character Isaac was an immediate hit. Tall, snarky, and slightly troubled, Isaac was a little hard to pin down at first.

He became a welcome edition to 'Teen Wolf', and thanks to some decent character development, he soon became a part of the pack: besties with the Teen Wolf himself; and at one point was romantically involved with the show's former leading lady Allison Argent (the lovely Crystal Reed, who has also graced us with her presence at Supanova in the past).

Daniel's departure was a big blow to the fans, but does he miss Beacon Hills, the town overrun with buff teen werewolves? “Well I miss the people, and I definitely miss the character.” As do we.

Daniel left the show to work on 'The Originals', a spin-off series from 'The Vampire Diaries', which he's since moved on from to work on other projects. Discussing what it's like to leave a show behind Sharman says: “You should always go off and do new things, I don't think you should ever get too comfortable.”

For Daniel, it's always difficult joining an established show or playing a part that's already been played by someone else: like Kaleb in 'The Originals'. It's got to be a tough goodbye when you've become so close to a crew of people. “I always fall in love with every single person on it. I try not to, I try to be aloof, but I end up dropping that after a few months.”

Being no stranger to the passionate 'Teen Wolf' fans, Daniel is excited to visit Australia for the first time. “This is quite an adventure that I'm about to embark on.”

Things always seem to get a little strange at 'Teen Wolf' panels, as any fan will tell you. “There's always bizarre shit that happens, almost every single time,” Daniel says, noting that sometimes it's not even the actual convention that brings the weird.

“Sometimes it's more about what the actors do in their free time there: in Italy [fellow 'Teen Wolf' alums] Charlie and Max Carver, Colton Haynes and I re-enacted every famous painting we could think of, while we were waiting backstage.”

Enthusiastic fans come with the territory when you're starring in TV shows, and even though Daniel fell in love with acting as a kid, he says he “never sat down and chose to be an actor, it just kind of happened and I went along with it”.

When he's not acting or showing his lovely face at conventions, Daniel says he lives on Netflix. Like most of us, he's particularly obsessed with 'Making A Murderer', the true crime series. “Oh bloody hell, that shit totally ruined parts of my life, I was obsessed!”

Daniel Sharman will appear at the Supanova Pop Culture Exhibition at the Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre 8-10 April as well as Melbourne Showgrounds 15-17 April.
