Award-winning actor, writer, producer and director Leah Purcell is the 2022 recipient of the prestigious Chauvel Award at the Gold Coast Film Festival’s Screen Industry Gala Awards last night (21 April).
The Chauvel Award recognises significant contribution to the Australian screen industry, named in honour of pioneering filmmakers Charles and Elsa Chauvel.
Leah has a hefty list of accolades to her name – she’s an AACTA, Helpmann, Deadly’s, ADG, AWGIE, IF, Logie award-winning and nominated artist. She’s been a part of film and television such as ‘Lantana’ and ‘Jindabyne’, ‘The Proposition’ and ‘Last Cab To Darwin’, ‘Redfern Now’ and ‘Cleverman’, ‘The Secret Daughter’ and ‘Janet King’.
Her latest work is play ‘The Drover’s Wife’, which was launched as a book, ‘The Drover’s Wife The Legend Of Molly Johnson’ and later as a film, which premiered at SXSW in 2021.
