The first details of the 2025 Gold Coast Film Festival have arrived – as it reveals this year’s Red Carpet Gala Opening and Closing Night films.
Along with big events like the Gold Coast Film Festival Awards Gala, the Women In Film Lunch, and Emerge! Student Shorts Gala, SIPFEST: Shorts In Paradise also returns.
Kicking off the 2025 event is the Australian Premiere of ‘The Ballad Of Wallis Island’, a Sundance Film Festival favourite directed by James Griffiths and starring Tim Key, Tom Basden, and Carey Mulligan.
The charming feature follows Charles (Tim Key), an eccentric lottery winner who lives alone on a remote island, dreaming of getting his favourite musicians McGwyer Mortimer (Basden/Mulligan) back together.

'Blue Horizon'
Then, to close things out is the World Premiere of ‘Blue Horizon’. Stars Pete Murray, David Cook, Damian McCoy and Chantal Elyse will walk the Red Carpet alongside Writer and Director Josh Hale.
‘Blue Horizon’ follows successful musician Maris Le Marcus, facing jail time and forced into a state-run wellness centre, as part of his probation. Following a chance meeting with Douglas, a resident living with severe Cerebral Palsy, both men bond over their similar upbringings and form an unlikely duo.
Tickets for the Opening and Closing Night Red Carpet Galas are on sale now.
Gold Coast Film Festival 2025 is on from 30 April-11 May.
