Die with dignity, live with none and make it all count. That's the mantra of the new Australian drama-comedy series 'The End', arriving on Foxtel next month.
From the producers of 'Top Of The Lake' (one of the most underrated local productions of the past 10, 20 years), 'The End' revolves around three generations of a family with separate but intersecting obsessions.Kate (Frances O'Connor: 'Mansfield Park', 'The Missing') is a doctor and senior registrar specialising in palliative care medicine who is passionately opposed to euthanasia.
Counter to this is Kate's mother, Edie (Dame Harriet Walter DBE: 'Downtown Abbey', 'The Crown') living in England who is equally impassioned about her right to die (which we witness in the opening moments of the trailer).
After Edie's attempted suicide, Kate relocates Edie to the Gold Coast and a retirement village (Edie's worst nightmare: "You drag me all this way and just dump me!") and sets about rebuilding their relationship.
Kate is also dealing with her own issues (including questioning her faith in western medicine and returning to the dating game) as well as her children's (gender-identity struggles).
A highlight of 'The End's comedy gold is this interaction between Kate and her daughter: "Your boyfriend is here." "I don't have a boyfriend." "Oh, it's just casual sex?"
A heartwarming, poignant tale set across ten episodes 'The End' will make you laugh, then cry, before laughing a little more.
The ensemble cast features Noni Hazlehurst ('A Place To Call Home'), Brooke Satchwell ('Mr Inbetween'), Alex Dimitriades ('Secret City') and Luke Arnold ('Black Sails').
'The End' will feature on Foxtel from 2 February, 2021.
