The 28th Flickerfest International Short Film Festival has announced the full programme for its event at Bondi Beach (and subsequent national tour) in early 2019.
Over ten thrilling days, Flickerfest will delight audiences with the very best in short films from Australia and around the world, screened under the stars at the iconic Bondi Pavilion.
There were 2,700 entries received from over 100 countries for the event. From this large entry field, only around 200 of the very best, most creative and inspiring shorts will be screened across 16 competitive programmes and four showcase programmes. In 2019, over 47 per cent of films screening at Flickerfest have been directed by women.
Key highlights from home include the Australian premieres of 'Desert Dash', written, directed by and starring Gracie Otto, which takes a fun and slightly twisted look at life in the Aussie outback if it were all just a game. There's also 'Ghost Bear', a moving and thought-provoking animation for kids by actor and comedian Paul McDermott.
Internationally, Flickerfest audiences will get to see the French film 'Rise Of A Star', starring legendary French actress Catherine Deneuve. It explores the life of a new Ballerina whose secret threatens to undermine her hard work. Norwegian comedy 'To Plant A Flag' will also be on show starring Jason Schwartzman.
Some beloved showcase categories making their return will be FlickerKids featuring family programming, Rainbow Shorts consisting of high quality LGBTQI+ shorts from around the world, Short Laughs the comedy programme, Love Bites for the lovers of love and FlickerUp National Youth Competitions.
Each year, Flickerfest drops their hilarious official trailer and 2019 is no different. Check it out below.
Following the season at Bondi, Flickerfest will of course hit the road for a four month national tour of the very best films from the festival. Click here for all the dates and click here for the full Flickerfest film programme.
