It's been a hot minute, but the acclaimed Emmy Award-winning writers behind 'Game Of Thrones' – David Benioff and D.B. Weiss – along with 'True Blood' writer Alexander Woo have debuted the trailer for their next TV project, '3 Body Problem'.
"I don't think there is anything quite like our show," proclaims Benioff, discussing the new sci-fi-mystery series with The Hollywood Reporter that's adapted from the opening novel of Chinese science fiction author Liu Cixin's trilogy 'Remembrance Of Earth's Past'.A storyline that commences in 1960s China and a pivotal decision by a young woman that echoes across space and time, entwining into present day when numerous world-class scientists begin dying in large numbers after experiencing hypnotic hallucinations of a countdown clock.
It's left to a a close-knit group of brilliant scientists join forces with an unorthodox detective to confront the greatest threat in humanity's history.
"There's someone behind everything – you just have to dig," says character Thomas Wade in the trailer, played by Liam Cunningham (best known as GoT's Davos Seaworth).
"There's so many different strands and different worlds at play, different characters not just in one place but across different times and different realities almost," shares D.B Weiss.
"I'm proud most of all of the way we tied those things together into what I hope is a coherent and unified human experience."
The series stars (in alphabetical order) Jovan Adepo, John Bradley, Rosalind Chao, Liam Cunningham, Eiza González, Jess Hong, Marlo Kelly, Jonathan Pryce, Alex Sharp, Sea Shimooka, Zine Tseng, Saamer Usmani, and Benedict Wong.
Adds Woo: "I'm really excited to share with everyone things they have never seen before, things we have never tried before putting on screen before; that no one has ever put on screens before."
Benioff, Weiss and Woo are co-creators, executive producers and writers of '3 Body Problem', which arrives on Netflix from 21 March, 2024.
