Comedy Central will take the dust covers off '90s cartoon series 'The Ren And Stimpy Show', with a modernised reboot of the iconic dog and cat duo.
The show about Ren – a psychologically challenged Chihuahua – and Stimpy – less intelligent than your average cat – was created by John Kricfalusi and debuted on Nickelodon in 1991 (alongside 'Rugrats').Its dark humour and vivid imagination quickly earned it cult status; while it attracted criticism for its crass jokes and sexual innuendo, the original series aired for five seasons.
"We are excited to reinvent this iconic franchise with a new creative team and our partners at the Nickelodeon Animation Studio," Chris McCarthy, President of ViacomCBS Entertainment & Youth Group, says.
"'Ren And Stimpy' joins our rapidly expanding roster of adult animation including 'South Park', 'Beavis And Butt-Head' and 'Clone High' as we continue to reimagine our treasure chest of beloved IP for new generations."
A debut date for 'The Ren And Stimpy Show' was not announced.
