'The action never stops at Action Park' was the the catch-cry of the US amusement park, which operated for almost 20 years from the late '70s.
But a HBO Max documentary 'Class Action Park' – to screen on FOX Showcase – uncovers the deadly story behind the world's most dangerous amusement park.
Action Park was a place where unruly '80s teenagers were given free rein to go gonzo on strange contraptions that seemed to violate the laws of common sense (and perhaps physics). To others, it was an ill-conceived death trap.
"The story of Action Park is a true crime story," declares the trailer, which focuses on the New Jersey amusement park where at least six people are known to have died as a result of mishaps on rides.
The first-ever, feature-length documentary to explore the legend, legacy, and truth behind a place that long ago entered the realm of myth, Action Park was founded by Eugene Mulvihill, a man comfortable with ignoring rules. "There were no rules; for a lot of kids, that was heaven."
But that led to tragedy. "Nobody should ever be the second person to die in a wave pool; close the f...ing wave pool!"
The film uses investigative journalism, newly unearthed and never-before-seen documents and recordings, original animations, and interviews with the people who lived it to reveal the true story for the first time.
