'Breaking Bad' creator Vince Gilligan obviously believes in striking while the iron's hot.
Most of us would be happy to bask in the glow of 'Breaking Bad' for a while longer if we were in Gilligan's shoes, but he's got two new shows on the go.
One is 'Better Call Saul', a direct prequel to 'Breaking Bad', but the other is something else entirely. 'Battle Creek', first pitched by Gilligan to networks almost a decade ago, has finally been given the green light and a couple of big names have jumped on board.
Deadline reports that 'X-Men' and 'Usual Suspects' director Bryan Singer — currently readying 'X-Men: Days Of Future Past' for release — has signed on to direct the pilot episode of 'Battle Creek'. Singer will also serve as an executive producer of the show alongside Gilligan and showrunner David Shore (of 'House' fame).
'Battle Creek' will focus on the uneasy partnership between two cops with very different philosophies — no-nonsense detective Russ Agnew (to be played by '30 Rock' regular Dean Winters) and FBI agent Milton Bradley (yep, he'll actually be called Milton Bradley).
At first glance, it doesn't have the compelling hook of a 'Breaking Bad' — "Mr Chips transforms himself into Scarface" is pretty hard to beat — but it's hard to see Vince Gilligan, Bryan Singer and David Shore teaming up on a flop.
'Battle Creek' will most likely premiere later this year.
