Deadline reports that HBO made the announcement at the Television Critics Association (TCA) press tour, before tipping their fedora hats to the show's incredible run thus far. "It has been an incredible honour to bring this powerful and groundbreaking series to our subscribers," said HBO Programming President Michael Lombardo. "Terry Winter has created one for the ages."
Creator Terrence Winter added that the show is coming to a natural conclusion, rather than being unceremoniously cancelled — or dragging on too long. "After much discussion with my creative team and HBO, we've decided to wrap up the series after such a great run and look forward to bringing it to a powerful and exciting conclusion."
The conclusion of 'Boardwalk Empire' will leave a big hole in HBO's line-up, particularly in the all-important 'Atlantic City Politics' market. Maybe they could replace it with a show about Chris Christie?
