Principal photography has commenced on Michael Petroni’s psychological thriller, ‘Backtrack’, in New South Wales.
Adrien Brody (‘King Kong’, ‘The Pianist’) and Sam Neill (‘The Piano’, ‘Jurassic Park’) lead the cast, which also features local actors Bruce Spence, Robin McLeavy, Jenni Baird and Anna Lise Phillips.
‘Backtrack’ follows a psychologist who’s life is thrown into turmoil when he discovers that his patients are the ghosts of people who all died 20 years previously.
Discussing filming in Australia with Petroni, Brody commented: “The complexity and attention to detail in Michael's storytelling greatly appeals to me. ‘Backtrack’ is suspenseful and meaningful. The drama plays out in a nuanced manner as we explore the things that could easily haunt any man: childhood memories, loss. Guilt or ghost, our past has a way of keeping us from being present.”
Petroni has achieved significant success as a Hollywood screenwriter, responsible for screenplays of films including ‘The Book Thief’, ‘The Rite’ and ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader’.
Shooting commenced in Sydney on January 6 and is scheduled to wrap in mid-February. Filming will take place in Sydney as well as the Central West region of New South Wales.
