Australian film 'The Flood' paints a vivid image of the nation's relationship with its indigenous peoples with a tale of retribution, revenge, redemption and reconciliation set during WWII.A gritty, brutal and emotional roller coaster ride from director Victoria Wharfe McIntyre ('Miro'), 'The Flood' follows Jarah (Alexis Lane: 'Cleverman') who's hell-bent on destroying the bigoted people who took away her husband (Shaka Cook – who will feature later this year in the hit musical 'Hamilton') and daughter Binda (Simone Landers) after their property was reclaimed by the government.
"'The Flood' is an action packed, dramatic western-styled adventure that uses our nation's history as a framework to support an uncompromising, exacting and at times romantic and delicate female-driven story that acts as a parable for race relations in our country," writer-director Victoria says.
Victoria won the Best Director Award and Alexis won Best Actress at the recent Sydney International Women's Film Festival.
Filmed in Victoria's home town of Kangaroo Valley (NSW), in what Victoria describes as a "wonderful creative collaboration with the local Yuin Nation community, utilising our land and that of friends and neighbours", 'The Flood' has poignantly become a visual archive of the Valley's pristine subtropical rainforests and unique bushland that were destroyed by the 2020 firestorm that devastated the east coast of Australia.
'The Flood' has being released on disc and is available to stream on selected DSP providers. It also has a limited theatrical release in Wallis Cinemas as well as The Ritz (Randwick) and Richmond Regent.
