Hot on the heels of the prestigious mountain festival, the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour is heading to Australia.

Brisbane filmgoers will need to switch into high gear from April when the Banff looms over our nation. The festival will feature a selection of the world’s most captivating mountain-themed short films that will leave audiences on the edges of their seats.

So where did it all start? Canada of course. It's an iconic event which takes place every November in the mountain town of Banff. More than 300 mountain culture, adventure and exploration films are shown during the week-long celebration. Each year, a selection of award winners and audience favourites then visits 35 countries around the globe as part of the festival’s official world tour.

This year, the Australian line-up features two-and-a-half hours of footage shot in some of the most wild and remote corners of the world. Sure to get hearts racing, it showcases films packed full of mesmerising cinematography, thought-provoking storylines and adrenalin-inducing action sequences.

Here are just 6 reasons to get along to the wild Banff Mountain Film Festival:

Asses

Fast Women

Watch in awe as a couple of hardcore rock climbing gals smash a Yosemite National Park rock climbing speed record. The swift duo climb a massive 880m of epic exposure on the infamous The Nose route on El Capitan.

Solar Eclipse of the heart

When you've got your heart set on capturing an image of a skier in front of solar eclipse you are going to have to move mountains to make it happen. And that is pretty much what photographer Reuben Krabbe does in the award winning film 'Eclipse'. He takes a crew of pro-skiers, a filmmaker and a crazy guide with a gun to the remote Svalbard area of Norway. With a rogue polar bear roaming the area the team have more to worry about than just bad weather and dodgy snow conditions.
