Eight-piece instrumental funk juggernaut The Francis Wolves are elated to announce the release of their debut, self-titled album next month.

After a strong 2015 with the release of their debut 7" single (sold out) and a slew of shows in south-east Queensland, taking on hordes of new fans with each outing, The Francis Wolves will celebrate with a night of heavy soul and raw funk at The Bearded Lady 8 April.

Bassist and principle songwriter of The Francis Wolves, Brian L’Huillier spent a lot of time during the making of this album watching Sergio Leone films.

With a soft spot for the bad guys here are his Top 5 spaghetti western villains.

1. Angel Eyes ('The Good The Bad And The Ugly')

From the moment Lee Van Cleef’s chiselled moustache arrives on horseback, you know it’s villain time and with a name like Angel Eyes it was always just a matter of time before some poor sod ends up full of lead. By far my favourite villain… and favourite ‘stache.

2. Ramon Rojo ('Fistful Of Dollars')

Man can that guy wear a hat! With a penchant for big guns, tough talk and setting things on fire Ramon has most of the town-folk scared. His secret is most probably not showering, but damn he looks compelling in the extreme close-ups and mariachi trumpet soundtrack! Do not mess with this guy unless you’re Clint Eastwood.

3. El Indio ('A Few Dollars More')

Recognise this guy? It’s Ramon Rojo! Gian Maria Volente returns wearing not much more than a pair of long johns. That’s my type of villain! He rolls with an ugly posse and his musical pocket watch spells death for most. He also rocks the beard unlike my first two entries, which adds to his villain-like charisma.

4. Frank ('Once Upon A Time In The West')

I’d go troppo too if I had to listen to Charles Bronson play harmonica 24/7. Frank is a great villain considering Henry Fonda was all to often the good guy in his films. Of note: no moustache or beard, just groovy sideburns on this killer.

5. Tuco ('The Good The Bad And The Ugly')

Tuco aka ‘the ugly’ has his moments. In particular the moment where he decides to drag Clint Eastwood’s character through the blazing hot desert with no water. In hindsight this was probably not a good idea for ol’ Tuco but nonetheless, his villain game is as strong as his ugliness.

The Francis Wolves launch their debut album at The Bearded Lady 8 April with support from Inigo and Doom Mountain.
