5 Monster Movies With Teen Sensations

'Frankenhooker'
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Teen Sensations recently released ‘Monster Beach Party’, a song about a basketball-playing vampire who wants to ask a girl on a date but can't go in the sunlight, so he has to build a beach party inside his castle.

It's a tale as old as time, you know.

Now Teen Sensations are bringing their ‘60s-striped-shirts-surf-party on the road to Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney throughout December.

Here are their Top 5 Monster Movies of all time

1. Frankenhooker

A young scientist’s girlfriend is decapitated in a push-mower accident, so he kills a stack of prostitutes using a drug concoction called ‘super-crack’ and uses the corpses to build her a brand new body. Apparently it’s one of Bill Murray’s favourite movies! It’s one of mine too, but nobody cares what I think.

2. Blood Freak

This 1972 pro-Jesus-anti-drug-murder-turkey-mutant-vampire movie flick had filmgoers saying ‘WTF’ before initialisms were even a thing. It’s about a grizzled Vietnam vet who meets a nice Christian lady, falls for her rebellious sister, gets hooked on some bizarre strain of pot, eats an entire ‘experimental’ turkey cooked up by some mad, poultry scientists and then transforms into a giant-turkey monster who feasts on the blood of drug users. It’s on YouTube and must be seen.

3. Head Of The Family

An immobile monster with a massive head and a tiny body controls his redneck family with the power of his huge brain. Some punk kids decide to blackmail the monster. That’s right: their plan was to try and outwit the guy with the brain so massive it’s developed metaphysical powers. Pretty entertaining movie!

4. Basket Case 3: The Progeny

This is the worst of the ‘Basket Case’ films, but has this one bit where a bus full of monsters break into a showtune. It’s so god-damn cool! Type ‘basket case 3 + personality’ into YouTube and you’ll find this wonderful scene [Ed note's: we've done the work for you, reader], probably eliminating the need to watch the whole film.

5. Love Serenade

This forgotten Australian film is not a ‘monster movie’ in any traditional sense. It’s a low-key comedy about a love triangle between two sisters and an egotistical middle-aged radio DJ who’s just moved from the big city. But it has this incredible non-sequitur plot twist at the very end where it’s revealed the DJ is half-man and half-fish. OK, I just ruined the movie for you all but, let’s be honest, you weren’t going to watch it anyway.
