Hailing from Melbourne (then Sydney), Michael Anderson is a professional guitarist specialising in jazz.

New to the Brisbane jazz scene, in 2014 he was named a finalist for the National Jazz Awards as part of the Wangaratta Jazz Festival. His bio also says he likes wearing wolf t-shirts. Cool.

1. Samurai Jack

A lesser-known gem. Beautiful animation, stylised action based on real martial arts and minimal dialogue in the spirit of old samurai flicks. So much awesome.

2. Daria

Brilliantly written comedy/ drama where an incredibly intelligent yet cynical teenage girl navigates the clichéd pressures of high school, parents, relationships and identity.

3. Transformers

The original and the best. Ultimate good versus evil. Awesome action, unforgettable voice acting and some of the coolest transformations ever. Soundwave was an absolute badass.

4. Regular Show

Really cool, recent cartoon with loads of references to late '80s/ early '90s video games, rock & roll and general pop culture of that time. Definitely one for the '90s kids like me.

5. The Simpsons

Such a great show for so many reasons. Some of the best comedy writing, scripting and unparalleled voice acting, particularly the seasons in the mid-'90s. 'The Simpsons' has influenced the sense of humour of multiple generations and hasn’t aged in the slightest.

The Michael Anderson Quartet plays Jazz MI Live 15 April.
