Tim Minchin and Milly Alcock will return for a second season of 'Upright'.
Tim Minchin's award-winning TV series 'Upright' has been renewed for a second season, which will be filmed in Queensland in 2022.
The series revolves around 40-something Lucky (Minchin) and teenager Meg (played by rising star Milly Alcock, who has been cast in the 'Game Of Thrones' prequel series 'House Of The Dragon'), who in the first season were thrust together while transporting a piano across the Nullarbor.
Minchin will again co-write and executive produce the series, which won Best Comedy Series and Best Comedy Performer (Tim Minchin) at the 2020 AACTA Awards.
"The experience of making 'Upright' was such a joy, and audience reactions from all over the world were so incredibly positive and moving, we knew we had to send Meg and Lucky on another adventure," Tim says.
"There's a lot of story still to tell, and such a fantastic team of people lined up to tell it."
The eight-part second season, which is currently in development, will find the pair in steamy Far North Queensland as they hit the road – and the river – on yet another mission.
"We are thrilled to be supporting Lingo Pictures to bring 'Upright' back for a second season," Screen Australia's Head of Content Sally Caplan says.
"Viewers around the world fell in love with season one and with a standout creative team on season two, including writers Tim Minchin, Niki Aken, Ian Meadows and Natesha Somasundaram, we hope audiences are ready to hit the road once again with Lucky and Meg when it releases on FOXTEL."
'Upright' season one is available on Foxtel and Binge.
