Top Five Watermelons With Tom Showtime

Tom Showtime

Good funk tracks are hard to come by these days.

But Melbourne-based producer and multi-instrumentalist, Tom Showtime, has nailed it with his new track, ‘Life is Funky’ featuring D’Fro (The Psyde Projects).

‘Life is Funky’ features vintage funk loops, syncopated horns, and a grooving baseline. With a ‘90s flow reminiscent of The Roots, D’Fro’s slick raps speak about getting stuck in a rut or in a life funk. "This track is a 'tip of the hat' to the golden era with a funk break, big beats, horn stabs and that ‘90s style rapping," Tom says.

To celebrate the release of ‘Life Is Funky’, and the fact it’s summer, Tom has selected his top five types of watermelon; we salute you Tom Showtime.

Afternoon Delight

An outstanding seedless variety. Exhibits a mottled stripe rind and bright red, firm flesh. Best served after lunch with ‘Lazy Afternoon’ by The Roots.

Red Tiger

Australia's most popular watermelon with dark green skin and dark red, very sweet flesh. Best served sliced with ‘Ten Tigers’ by Bonobo.

Yellow Crimson

Also known as Yellow Flesh, Yellow Crimson is described by some as having a sweeter, almost honey-like taste than regular watermelon. Best served in the sun with ‘Yellow Fever’ by Fela Kuti.

Viking

The distinctive rind pattern, a narrow, dark-green stripe over a wider, medium green stripe, provides an identifying mark of quality for the consumer. Best served by the sea with ‘Vikings Invade The Mediterrane’ by Prefuse 73.

Japanese Square

It doesn’t matter what shape the watermelon is, it’s what’s inside that matters. Very deep, very dope... Best served in cubes with ‘Unsquare Dance’ by Dave Brubeck.
