Street Food Australia — a 'social enterprise small business incubator' dedicated to implementing a street food system in Australia's urban places — launches tonight.
An umbrella organisation seeking to remove barriers and provide support to migrants and refugees wishing to enter the food industry as business owners, Street Food Australia plans to service pop-up events, festivals and corporate events (as well as day-to-day street vending) on their unique bikes.
They'll launch their first bike tonight, serving up steaming dumplings alongside stalls selling delicious ethnic street cuisine like 'mini-banh mi', elote (Mexican corn), tequila ribs, and more. There'll also be a pop-up street food cookbook bookstore (on a bike), sponsored by Scrumptious Reads, so you can get inspired to cook street food recipes at home. All carts have been made locally using sustainable methods and materials.
The launch is in the courtyard, foyer and screening room courtesy of the Institute of Modern Art (IMA) from 6pm-8:30pm at the Judith Wright Centre, Cnr Berwick & Brunswick Sts, Fortitude Valley.
All mini-meals are priced at $5 (cash only!), with vegetarian options available. Come by bicycle and get free bicycle valet parking!
