Skate Culture: Sydney's Must-Cruise Locations

Sydney is becoming known for its skate culture, ever-growing in challenges and popularity. We’ve developed a list of our recommendations for your own Sydney skating adventure locations!

Monster Skate Park

Monster is the only international skating facility found in Australia; hosted by Sydney Olympic Park, this location is a must for any and all abilities. They provide sessions dedicated to your choice of wheels—skateboarders are joined by BMX riders and scooters, plus a blast of heaving beats making for a thrilling atmosphere. This is also your opportunity to stock up on the essentials at the boutique action sports shop. A taste of a professional skating arena without the pressure to perform, but rather masses of enthusiasts around to cheer you on. This is a challenging, exhilarating cruise that will have you hooked.

Waterloo Fernside Skate Park

If you’re looking for an authentic taste of street skating, this park will shoot to the top of your list. Smooth glides surrounded by challenging blocks, ledges and rails galore. This is an ideal park for the intermediate rider, one who is looking to nail down street techniques while enjoying an easy cruise. This is the closest you’ll get to the variety of street cruising while avoiding the crowds and dangers of busy roads; mini ramps, stairs, flat bars, banks and steep walls make up one of the favoured parks amongst keen locals and travelling riders alike.

Bondi Skate Park

Bondi skating culture finds its home a little left of centre. This is not your traditional skate park, with an alternative layout, tight corners, rolled lips and trannies. Regardless of whether your preferences lie in the park or the street, this is a challenging bowl and will keep you on your proverbial toes. This is very much a tourist destination as much as it is must-do on any skating agenda, with its stunning views of the ocean while you ride.

Riverwood Skate Park

A little further from Sydney’s inner suburbs, but no less worthwhile. Riverwood, just outside Sydney city, boasts a little skate park with a lot to offer; all ages and abilities can unite their passion for riding the decks in this good old-fashioned kidney bowl. Sharp transitions will give the old-school riders a bit of a kick, and provide something rarely seen for younger skaters. Banks, fun-boxes and rails are well planned and executed, and a few unexpected twists are thrown in for good measure.
