Bright and early on Thursday morning (18 February), scenestr took a sneak preview of the up and coming Barre Brisbane Studio, located in West End.
Barre (pronounced simply Bar, but if you want to put some french twist, go right ahead) is essentially the bar used for ballet, the classic one set in front of a mirror. Although this is incorporated into the workout, it is more about a ballet, yoga and piglets combination, creating the Barre Studio Workouts. The workouts themselves come in a variety of ways to get involved, some more intense than others. Ahead of the launch they are also hoping to create a for-mums class.
Class styles include Barre Classic, Barre Cardio, Barre Endurance and Barre Stretch. Other packages to launch will cater for brides, new mums and private classes.
Barre is popular in the UK and US, with Australia now picking up on the fitness trend which has been around since the late 1950’s. Barre Brisbane studio director Ash Daniec was a ballet dancer in her teens, and took her first class in New York City’s Ballet Beautiful where the likes of Gigi Hadid and other Victoria’s Secret models train. Other fans of the workout include Madonna, Miranda Kerr, Natalie Portman and more.
Treated to a quick demonstration about the basics of Barre and the benefit, it was quite a considerate preview as it let people with busy work schedules fit in a small event, just like they would Barre.
Coffee was lovingly provided by Charlie Cools Coffee, a fixture outside the studio, which is another benefit for morning workouts.
For people who find the normal exercise routines quite boring and plain, Barre can be a great way to shake things up.
Barre Brisbane opens to the public on 25 February with a special launch on 5 March.
