Lonely Planet has picked Australia's best beaches, islands and luxury stays as part of the 17th edition of the "Australia Travel Guide".
Bondi Beach, Wineglass Bay in Tasmania and Crowdy Head all made it onto the list of best beaches, alongside lesser known seaside destinations such as Hellfire Bay. Lonely Planet described the Western Australia beach as having "sand like talcum powder" despite being "precisely in the middle of nowhere".
In listing Australia's best islands, Lonely Planet noted Kangaroo Island's fresh seafood offerings and the abundant wildlife of Fraser Island. Bruny Island's "magical coastal scenery" and Rottnest Island's "chequered history" also made it into the running.
The travel publisher's best Australian luxury stays included Park Hyatt, the harbourside hotel boasting views of the Sydney Opera House and Hobart's 1847-manor-turned-hotel, Islington Hotel.
The new edition of the best-selling travel guide also features tips on Brisbane and Sydney's best bars, Canberra's new Treasures Gallery at the National Library of Australia and the "ever-evolving" Waterfront Precinct in Darwin.
