If the New South Wales government have their way, Kings Cross is set to change in a huge way.
On Friday and Saturday nights after midnight, the NSW Government proposes to:
-Ban shots (no more birthday shots)
-Ban cocktails (no more mojitos)
-Ban doubles (no more scotch on the rocks)
-Ban glassware (no more bottled wine or beer)
-Restrict sales to no more than 4 drinks per person at a time (no more shouting your mates)
-Force venues to stop serving drinks an hour before close.
Naturally, Kings Cross clubs don't want this to happen. They claim the Government's plan will lose them up to $1 million a month, as well as costing jobs and potentially shutting down some of your favourite restaurants and bars.
While acknowledging that the area does have a crime problem that needs to be fixed, the 'WeLoveKingsX' campaign is proposing more police, a zero tolerance approach to violence, more street CCTV cameras and more late night public transport as an alternative to harsh anti-liquor laws.
To help, Kings Cross clubs are asking you to join the 'WeLoveKingsX' campaign on Facebook and Twitter. They're also asking punters to send messages of protest directly to Barry O'Farrell at
