Run by volunteers, the Zine and Independent Comic Symposium (ZICS) unites passions and engages community.
In its second year, ZICS is independently organised and funded through Pozible (a crowd-funding platform). Bringing together the best independent publishers from around Australia, along with workshops, live music and panels, ZICS is a three day celebration of independent comics and zines.
After last years turn out of over 3000 people, the ZICS team thought it made sense to continue the momentum into the next year with another amazing convention. One of the co-founding members of the ZICS team, Justin George, says that it's exciting to see how much people enjoyed themselves last year.
“This year, local and interstate creators like Sophie Benjamin, Melbourne Distro Sticky Institute, Bianca Valentino, and Brisbane comic artist Benjamin Constantine will be at the fair showcasing their latest and greatest material, which is really exciting.
“Not only that, but we have a whole lot of newcomers on board this year – it just shows the level of enthusiasm that’s out there for independent publishing that not a lot of people may be aware of.”
So if you're a comic book lover, zine reader, a drawer, a writer or even just interested, ZICS will be held at the State Library of Queensland, August 29-31.
